With changing times, the mindsets of couples have also changed. There was a time when society considered a man as the provider and head of the family. Women were expected to stay at home, take care of children and manage the household. A women was only allowed to work under certain special circumstances.


Couples these days support the concept of an egalitarian society where men and women are treated equally. Men have evolved and consider women as their equals. The concept of marriage has evolved accordingly.

When asked "What kind of marriage do you think is the more satisfying way of life?" Majority of men and women chose marriage where "the husband provides for the family and the wife takes care of the house and children". This shows how the young generation is evolving.


A similar survey was conducted with respect to age group. Following were the outcome of the survey:

These changes have influenced various aspects of marriage. Earlier majority of wedding expenses were handled by the bride's family. Today, many couples prefer splitting the wedding expenses.
