Indian weddings are known for its rituals and traditions. These customs and rituals are the most crucial part of the wedding ceremony. These traditions have been practised since ancient times. They bring a lot of fun, emotion and love to the wedding.

Here are some of the major rituals practiced in a Hindu wedding :

Kanyadaan :

It is one of the major traditions practiced during a Hindu wedding. Here the bride's father hands over her hand to the groom. It signifies that the father wants the groom to take proper care of his daughter. During Kanyadan, traditional songs are sung by the ladies.

This is a very emotional ritual. In India, Kanyadaan is considered as a prestigious moment for the bride's father. It is said that this ceremony purifies all the sins.

Sindoor :

The Sindoor ceremony begins after the completion of Kanyadan. Sindoor is a colored powder used by married Indian women. This artificially colored powder is put on parting line of hair by married Indian women. During the ceremony, the groom applies sindoor on the bride's head.

Mangalsutra :

Mangalsutra is one of the most sacred rituals in a wedding ceremony. "Mangalsutra" is a combination of two words i.e. "Mangal" and "Sutra". Mangal means auspicious and Sutar is thread.

Basically Mangalsutra is a sacred thread that is tied across the bride's neck by the groom. It also shows that a woman is married. The design and look of mangalsutra changes according to the difference in culture.

Seven Vows :

In India, marriage is believed to last for seven births. In this ceremony, seven vows are taken by the couple in front of the holy fire. Vows are taken for love, prosperity, commitment, health, friendship etc. The couple circles the holy fire seven times and every circle signifies a vow. This ceremony signifies the strength of the bond between the couple. After this ceremony, the couple becomes husband and wife.
