Planning for a Monsoon Wedding

The preparations for a monsoon wedding have to take into consideration the fact that it is going to be very wet. The summer monsoon takes place in almost the whole of India. So, one has to take into account the torrential rainfall and the wetness one has to be exposed to, while planning the event. This may not pose much of a problem to youngsters but the aged and elderly are sure to find it inconvenient and some may even be ill-disposed to attend the event if it is not arranged taking into account all these considerations.

Finding a Waterproof Venue!

Selection of a properly covered wedding venue becomes the most important thing to do at a monsoon wedding. Conducting any event in the open becomes unthinkable as the ground or even the lawn is going to be slushy and muddy. So,it is better to choose a well roofed venue, preferably a wedding hall or hotel that can be tastefully decorated indoors with carpets suitably placed at the entrance .One can even have volunteers with umbrellas handy to safely escort the guests if it happens to be raining outside. In case, guests are carrying their own wet umbrellas, there should be a place where they can be placed so that they drip and dry in a corner till they can be reclaimed by the guest.

Designer Clothing for the rains

Needless to say, silk is the most preferred material to make wedding clothes beit for the bride or groom or the guests. But if one knows beforehand that the wedding will fall during the monsoon season, it would be better to select a blend of silk cloth that is shrink resistant and which can stand up to raindrops without crinkling. The choice of bright colours and sparkling gear is sure to brighten any wedding atmosphere!

Though the colours red and maroon are predominant in a traditional North Indian Wedding and primary colour codes are prevalent in a South Indian wedding, today’s bridal couples are seeking subtler and newer shades for their marital trousseau. One must just be sure that it is not too dull a shade when selecting a novel colour. The glitz and glamour of jewels and accessories must be able to compete and complement the diamante of the dazzling raindrops outside.

Invites for a rainy day

As in the case of a regular wedding, the invitations can be designed choosing from the unlimited array of design options available and according to one’s budget. Laser cut cards are considered trendy and they appear to be delicately beautiful. Of course, if one wants to save ahead for a rainy day, one can choose an elegant e-invite. This saves one from going from one house to other distributing invitations which is a little risky in this COVID scenario.

E-invites are so advanced in their format and looks. They can be turned over from page to page as in a physical card and so one can include all the details one wants to, as in a complex paper card with many sheets. What is more, one can even share the location of the wedding venue in the e-invite itself. Sometimes both paper invitations and e-invites are used in combination. The paper cards are for close relatives and elders, whereas the e-invites are for the bigger group of friends and others.

Wedding Guests

The list of wedding guests for any Indian wedding is rather long and impressive, including anyone from 90 to 9 year oldpersons. Even new born children are carried to the wedding venue by parents who wish to show their solidarity. But in the present COVID times, one has to keep in mind, the state government’s restriction of numbers of only 100, 50, 25 or 20. Even otherwise, it would be comfortable if the Monsoon Wedding is a not too crowded affair.

In case of there being restrictions, the guest list has to be made meticulously making sure that no important relative or family friend is left out. The participation of others can be made virtual by giving them an e-link to the actual wedding through a You- tube telecast. In that case, the card must courteously explain why they are not invited to be physically present.

Accommodation and Transport

The wet weather makes it mandatory for accommodation of guests at a place near to the wedding venue. Service apartments or hotels in the vicinity can be booked facilitating easy movement to and fro.Good transport should also be arranged so that they need not wade through the rains and get all their fine dresses spoiled. In case the bride or groom are getting ready in a place away from the wedding venue, special care must be taken to see that they arrive fresh and untouched by the vagaries of the weather outside.

So, even if the wedding is in the wet season, one need not allow the rains to dampen the wedding celebrations but go ahead and rejoice with all the paraphernalia connected with a magical monsoon wedding. There is the only limitation that the outdoors is off limits. Otherwise, there are no restrictions to the gaiety and revelry which can be as unlimited as possible. So, take the baby steps to plan a gala monsoon wedding that can be as special or more than one in dry weather!
