Our focus in this blog is on Islamic or Muslim weddings within the context of South Asia, as not all Islamic weddings share the same customs. While some events and ceremonies bear similarities to other South Asian wedding traditions, others are unique to the Muslim community.
In general, attendees can anticipate participating in at least one pre-wedding ceremony, a religious ceremony, and at least one reception or reception-like gathering. Pre-wedding events typically revolve around the Mehndi (henna) and Haldi (turmeric) ceremonies. The Nikah ceremony represents the religious wedding ritual.
